ABC Community Network’s Community Learning Programme
ABC has been awarded funding from the Halifax Foundation for Northern Ireland. This funding will contribute towards ABC’s Community Learning Programme (CLP) which offers vital courses that help develop and sustain community and voluntary groups in the Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Council area. The Community Learning Programme will run from November 2017 through to the end of June 2018 so we hope all our groups will take advantage of these activities, networking and celebration events over the coming months. The first 6 courses are outlined below the following booking details:
These accredited courses are offered by tutors who are experienced in working with community and voluntary groups.
The following courses are available to pre-book:
Tues 7 November: 7 - 10 pm: Child Safeguarding Refresher. This course, offered by Community Sector Training, is for those who completed the FULL Child Safeguarding (or Child Protection) course approximately 3 years ago. This Refresher course updates that full qualification for a further 3 years. Participants will be required to produce evidence of their FULL course qualification.
Wed 8 November: 9.30 am - 1.30 pm: First Aid Lifesaver. This course covers how to deal with an accident involving a conscious or unconscious casualty, breathing problems such as choking, bleeding, CPR and how to safely and effectively use an AED (defibrillator).
Wed 22 November: 9.30 - 12.30 pm: Manual Handling Awareness. This course covers safe handling of people and equipment, prevention of injuries, legal requirements. This is a practical course so participants will be active!
Wed 22 November: 2.00 - 3.30 pm: Fire Safety. For low risk environments and will cover fire precautions and prevention, recognising hazards, evacuations, fire drills, using equipment.
NEW! Thursday 30 November: 7.00 – 9.00 pm: Adult Safeguarding Awareness. Community Sector Training is introducing this new course aimed at community and voluntary groups. All community groups providing activities for adults are expected to meet minimum standards to safeguard adults at risk of harm. This short session will:
Wed 6 December: 9.30 am - 1.30 pm: Food Safety Level 1. This course is particularly useful for community groups who serve food at functions and meetings. It covers areas including food hygiene, hazards, food poisoning, personal hygiene, cleaning, contamination. If a group is serving food AT ANY LEVEL, it is recommended that at least 2 people in the group have a food safety qualification.
