ABC Community Network’s community hub was officially opened in March 2016. The larger, refurbished and fully accessible premises and extensive garden has enabled ABC to develop a range of activity programmes and volunteering opportunities to cater for the needs of a range of interests and activities. This has greatly benefited the community, member groups, and the voluntary organisations based in the hub and the people they serve.
Over the past year, however, demand for community space, particularly for health and well-being programmes, arts and crafts and space to accommodate networking events, has greatly increased and on that basis it is proposed to demolishing the existing outbuildings and build a multipurpose room which can accommodate a range of interests and activities.
Proposed sketch plans including 3-D images have been developed by McAdamStewart Architects on the basis of feedback received from service evaluation reports, meetings with partner organisations, representatives from member groups, volunteers and others that have used the ABC hub in the past year.
ABC has always offered a shared space facility in neutral areas within Portadown town centre where people from all backgrounds and communities can come together to participate in a range of interests and activities. The proposed development will complement and build on existing local provision.
