Thomas Street Methodist Church 100th Anniversary of WW1

Thomas Street Methodist Church, Portadown is celebrating the award of 20 silhouettes funded by the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust

The silhouettes will be used as a focal point during our weekend of events to mark the 100th Anniversary of the end of WW I.

The church sanctuary will be open from 10.00am to 3.00pm on Friday 9th and Saturday 10th November to provide people with the opportunity to Remember and Reflect upon the sacrifice made by those in service of their country.  Church will be suitably decorated to reflect different eras of conflict on land, in the air and on the seas.  As people view the displays, the silhouettes will be there as a poignant reminder of those who gave their all.

On the Friday 9th November at 7.30pm, in the Wesley Hall, Portmore Street, there will be a concert which will again reflect upon times of conflict.  The artists will include the Swing Gals, the Ormeau Concert Band, Richard Edgar and Denver Pearson, all topped and tailed by a piper.  Here too the Silhouettes will be used to reinforce the memory of those who are not there.

On Sunday 11th November at 11.45am, Thomas Street Methodist Church will host the Civic Remembrance Service and the congregation will be seated around the Silhouettes.

We would acknowledge the assistance of the Portadown Branch of the Royal British Legion and local community representatives in preparing for this weekend.

It is our earnest prayer that these events will provide a time when we can Remember and Reflect upon the cost of conflict.

The award was made under the Armistice and Armed Forces Communities programme, which makes awards to bring communities together to remember; and to think about the Armed Forces today

The times of Reflection and Remembrance are open to all, and all are welcome to attend.  Members of our church prayer team will be available during these times of Reflection and Remembrance to pray with anyone who may seek prayer.
